Alice L. CherotAlice Cherot Obituary

Alice Latisha Lassiter on March 7, 1943, to Jones Edward Lassiter and Virginia Ann Watts Lassiter in Portsmouth, Va. Her first 6 years were spent close to extended family in the Tidewater region. In 1948 she moved with her parents to Brooklyn NY, where she completed elementary and junior high at PS 9. And then completed her secondary training at Prospect Heights H. S. Alice went on to receive her Associate’s Degree from Fashion Institute of Technology in Manhattan in 1962, then landed a job for Butterick/Vogue Pattern Company.

In 1965 she married Dennis Cherot and moved to New Jersey. The marriage lasted for 7 years, but there were no children from that union. Alice continued with her career and became the supervisor of the technical department of Butterick/Vogue, where she continued to be employed for over 20 years. After retiring in 1999 Alice moved in with her mother to help manage her massive brownstone in Brooklyn, N.Y. whose health was beginning to decline.

By 2007, Alice and her mom decided to return home to the Tidewater area. They moved to the Deep Creek section of Chesapeake. Just two years after moving back to Virginia, her mother passed, however Alice would remain in the house they shared together. She enjoyed her solitude, and still fashion minded, she would spend time collecting and making various styles of clothing. She also adopted the love of her life, little Sandie, the long haired chihuahua, a caring Emotional Support Animal. By 2014, Alice was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease which prompted her to begin considering how to downsize. In 2018 she relocated to an active senior development in Western Branch section of Chesapeake, where she remained with her beloved pet until November 19, 2021, at 9:08am when she passed with Sandie by her side.

She is survived by her brother James Floyd Sr., sister-in-law, Paulette, 3 nephews, James Christian, James Floyd II. and Justin Edward, a host of cousins and her loving dog Sandie.
